Math on the Level is a complete curriculum for the whole family. Designed for the home learning environment, it equips you to teach any math concept from pre-K through pre-algebra and give your child a strong foundation in math. After completing Math on the Level , your child will be ready to begin Algebra I. |
|
The Math on the Level Overview and Record Keeping binder, in three simple steps, helps you get started teaching math in practical, real-life ways while adapting to your child's maturation level. It also shows you how to easily test your child's retention of previously learned math to locate and fill any gaps. It also describes the 5-A-Day review system that provides continual, focused review without busywork. The Concept Chart is the master reference for the curriculum, giving the location of every math concept and its associated review problems. The Review Chart and 5-A-Day Records, are tools to plan and track your child's 5-A-Day review. These forms are designed to help make sure every topic is practiced sufficiently over time so the learning goes into long-term memory. |

Operations is the largest of the four Math on the Level teaching guides (170 full color pages) and covers math operations and properties along with numerous other topics. As with all of the Teaching Guides, Operations covers concepts taught in grades pre-K to 8, starting with the early topics (beginning counting and recognizing numbers). It then goes on to cover addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of positive and negative numbers, including the many steps that it takes to teach them. Operations also covers math properties and many advanced concepts such as roots, exponents, variables, scientific notation, and graphing equations (to name a few). For each topic covered, there is a page of practice problems (with answers) to use when teaching and for the 5-A-Day reviews. Like the rest of the Math on the Level curriculum, Operations includes a variety of teaching ideas that address different learning styles and emphasize practical, daily life applications, including the use of manipulatives to help the child understand and enjoy the lesson.

Money and Decimals is the second of the four Math on the Level teaching guides (74 full-color pages). Because money is the most commonly used base ten system, Math on the Level uses money as a practical way to teach decimals. This teaching guide works particularly well in conjunction with the Math Adventure: Shopping. Like the rest of the Math on the Level curriculum, the topics in Money and Decimals include different teaching ideas that address different learning styles. Concepts are taught with practical, daily life applications, using manipulatives and activities to help the child understand and enjoy each lesson. With Math on the Level, you have at your finger tips the tools to teach any math topic your children will need from preschool through pre-algebra. |
|
Starting with patterns and basic shapes, this teaching guide goes on to cover time, weight, shapes and formulas, coordinate planes, positive and negative numbers, and many other related topics. It also includes a reference section with charts of customary and metric measurements and a useful glossary of geometric words. For each topic covered, there is a page of practice problems (with answers) to use for the 5-A-Day reviews. Like the rest of the Math on the Level curriculum, topics in Geometry and Measurements are covered using a variety of teaching ideas to address different learning styles and needs. Math concepts are taught with practical, daily life applications, using manipulatives and activities to help the child understand and enjoy each lesson.

Fractions is the fourth of the four Math on the Level teaching guides (98 full color pages). The Fractions teaching guide starts with matching objects and the concepts of half and whole, and it then introduces fractions, starting with the most simple. It goes on to cover addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of fractions and other related topics such as cross products, reciprocals, rates, ratios, and probability. For each topic covered, there is a page of practice problems (with answers) to use while teaching and for the 5-A-Day reviews. Because fractions are commonly used in cooking, the Fractions teaching guide works particularly well in conjunction with the Math Adventure on cooking. Like the rest of the Math on the Level curriculum, the topics in Fractions include different teaching ideas that address different learning styles. Math concepts are taught in practical, daily life applications, using manipulatives and activities to help the child understand and enjoy each lesson. The organization of the teaching guides and emphasis on practical, family life learning let you teach your children together if desired, with each child learning at his or her own level. |

Math Adventures also includes a section called Math Vocabulary . These are words your family can use in conversation which will help math concepts become more familiar. Another section shows how, with the Math on the Level approach, you can easily include math instruction in Unit Studies that normally are limited to other topics, such as literature, history, language arts, or social studies. Math on the Level gives you teaching ideas that are innovative and effective. The emphasis on practical life application will help you teach your children in ways they will understand and enjoy. Coupled with the 5-A-Day review system, Math on the Level helps your children retain their math knowledge for the long term. |
|
The Math Resources book contains very useful information that is general in nature and can be broadly applied both in math and in other areas of study (70 full-color pages). For example, Charts, Graphs and Set Theory can be used in math, but also in other subjects, such as science and history, as well as many other practical areas of daily life. The next section gives practical ways to help you teach children how to approach and solve Word Problems. Along with a Math Dictionary section, there are sections on How to Memorize in general and on Memorizing Math Facts. (An additional resource is the 9's Down Math Facts program, sold separately). Like the rest of the Math on the Level curriculum, each idea contained in Math Resources reflects the author's extensive background of working with children with different learning styles.
